Governor Greg Gianforte has signed into law a package of nine bills containing more than $500 million to fund infrastructure projects across the state. The funds are mostly in addition to hundreds of millions of dollars that will be flowing into Montana from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Most of that money was appropriated in separate legislation once lawmakers gained more clarity on how federal relief funds could be spent.

Groups in Montana are petitioning to change the names of three geographic features that now bear the name of Jefferson Davis the former president of the Confederacy who supported slavery to Salish words to honor the state’s first inhabitants. Travis McAdam with the Montana Human Rights Network says the changes would make the state more inclusive.
