When thousands of Rural Electric leaders from across the nation meet in Nashville, March 6-9, for their annual meeting, it will be a special time for Montana’s Electric Cooperatives. For the first time, one of their own from the Big Sky Country will be leading the national association.
In March of 2021, when Chris Christensen from Hinsdale began his two-year term as president of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, it was a historic moment for Montana. Not only was Chris Christensen the first Montanan ever to lead the NRECA, but he took the reins in a very challenging time, at the height of the national Coronavirus pandemic.
A director of NorVal Electric Cooperative on Montana’s Hi-Line, Christensen had served on the association’s board for seven years, as he moved through the offices of national leadership. The NRECA is the national trade association representing nearly 900 local electric cooperatives, serving 42 million Americans across 56 percent of the nation.
Christensen manages his family’s cattle ranch with his wife, Carol, and four children, and is a former High School FFA Advisor.
At the 2022 PowerXchange, Montana’s state radio news network, the Northern Broadcasting System, will join Chris Christensen and thousands of his members in Nashville, as they provide three days of on-site coverage including live broadcasts March 6-9, direct from the annual meeting of the NRECA!
