A major disaster declaration for the state of Montana requested by Governor Greg Gianforte as a result of the Richard Spring Fire has been approved by President Joe Biden. It charred more than 170,000 acres on public and private property in Rosebud County and on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. The federal aid that accompanies the major disaster declaration will supplement state tribal and local resources being used to offset widespread damage as a result of the fire.
