In Southwest Montana, the brown trout fish species is dropping in numbers across a wide range of the region’s rivers and biologists are stumped to the cause. From Melrose to Brownes Bridge, brown trout survey numbers are the lowest in 50 years.

Montana Conservation Voters has released a report scoring legislators for their votes on a variety of environmental issues including public lands and renewable energy. The report identifies a major victory in House Bill 701, which secured public lands funding laid out in the recreational cannabis initiative passed by voters, but Representative Marilyn Marler from Missoula notes that victory had its own hurdles.
