Recently Signed Bills May Aid Disable Voters’ Submissions

Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Troy Downing has announced a rulemaking to strengthen consumer rights in the bail bond industry A typical premium on a bond in Montana is 10%. The new rules establish how bail bondsmen maintain this premium which is not regulated in statute and is only subject to marketplace competition.

The Montana Legislature is considering bills concerning people with disabilities. Disability Rights Montana staff attorney Beth Brennamen notes the governor signed Senate Bill 15 into law ensuring funding for voter-accessibility machines and House Bill 643, which allows electronic submission of ballots. Brennamen says voters with disabilities can fill out their ballots electronically but it requires a printer to submit them.
