Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for public review regarding a proposal to perform shoreline restoration, access improvements, and install artificial habitat structures at Big Casino Creek Reservoir near Lewistown, MT. The project would install stone framed deflectors to address wave induced erosion along approximately 100 feet of shoreline. In addition to reducing the erosion, the deflectors would be expected to eliminate the chronic turbidity and silt dominated substrate in the area of primary recreational use. A seasonal dock would be installed and various types of habitat structures would be placed in the reservoir. Together, these actions would be intended to improve the aquatic habitat and recreational angling opportunities at a popular Lewistown area waterbody.
Copies of the draft EA are available upon request at FWP offices or on FWP’s website at http://fwp.mt.gov/news/publicNotices/. The draft EA will be open for public review and comment from March 16, 2021 through April 15, 2021. Comments can be sent via email to clsmith@mt.gov or mailed to:
