Senator Steve Daines Highlights Need to Tackle Obamacare Cost Growth and Healthcare Waste Ahead of Budget Vote

After getting the government re-opened, Congress and Montana Senator Steve Daines are preparing for the next round of Obamacare funding decisions. The Senator notes that one of the major problems to address is how Obamacare insurance costs are far outpacing other health care increases, despite the original claims in 2010.

Senator Daines said another area to address is cutting healthcare system waste, fraud, and abuse as Congress debates the expanded Obamacare subsidies in hopes of passing a budget before the current budget resolution expires at the end of January.

 

Montanans for Nonpartisan Courts Launches Signature Drive 

Montanans for Nonpartisan Courts launched a campaign to preserve Montana’s nonpartisan judicial elections Thursday, by starting a signature collection in Helena with support from retired justices. They need 60,000 signatures by June to put CI-132 on the 2026 ballot after winning a legal case.

 

Western Wool Growers Alliance Receives $35,000 Grant for Montana Wool Mill Feasibility Study

The Western Wool Growers Alliance has secured a $35,000 grant to explore building a wool mill in Montana. The “Electric City Wool Mill Feasibility Study” will look at converting raw fleeces into combed top—a premium preparation for spinning smooth, durable yarn. Supporters say a local mill would cut high shipping costs and boost competitiveness for U.S. wool producers. The project aligns with Montana State University’s new Wool Research Lab, set to open in 2026. Backers include Senator Steve Daines and several industry groups.
