According to a study published by researchers at LendingTree Montana has the second highest percentage of at-risk properties with more than half of the structures in the state possibly vulnerable to wildfire. That additional risk is driving up the cost of homeowners insurance for many residents even those whose property isn’t normally thought of as at-risk. Only Wyoming has more buildings at risk of wildfire with 54% compared to Montana at 51%.
Democratic Senator Jon Tester will face his challenger Republican Tim Sheehy in a debate this evening. The one-hour live event will be broadcast from a Montana PBS studio on the University of Montana campus in Missoula when they will debate issues and answer questions. There will also be an opportunity for direct exchanges and potentially for the candidates to question each other. There will not be a live audience in the studio during the debate.
The deadline is tomorrow October 1st for Montana residents who qualify to apply for a property tax rebate because of a measure the state Legislature passed during its last session. People can qualify for as much as 675-dollars in property tax rebates if they lived in the state for at least seven months in 2023 and owned a residence for that long.

The Montana VA Health Care System will launch its 2024 Flu vaccination campaign Tuesday with statewide walk-in or drive-up flu clinics except for Browning daily from 8:30 t0 3. The Lewistown clinic will offer walk-in flu shots anytime during flu season at all scheduled Primary Care appointments.
Joshua Johnson of Williston North Dakota was fishing on Fort Peck Lake last week and caught a smallmouth bass weighing 8.4 pounds and 22.4 inches long. He is now working with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks on finishing up a state record application.
