U.S. Justice Department Awards Montana Tribes Victim Compensation Grants

November is National Native American Heritage Month. The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a combined $2.2 million in grants to the Blackfeet, Northern Cheyenne, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux, and Chippewa Cree tribes for victim services. $3.7 million will go to the state Department of Corrections through the federal Victim of Crime Act along with $609,000 to the state Department of Justice to provide victim compensation.
