The Department of Homeland Security today announced the U.S. is extending the nonessential closure of its northern and southern borders to at least September 21 due to the delta variant of the coronavirus. Montana Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines both denounced the decision through in respective statements saying the continued closure of the Canadian border is hurting Montana’s trade and communities near the border. Canada began letting fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents into the country on August 9, but nonessential traveling Canadians still cannot enter the U.S.
