House Bill Concerning Ballot Collections Draws Criticism From Disability Rights Montana

In: News Headlines

Wednesday, the Senate Select Committee on Marijuana Law heard the third proposal in as many days on implementing a recreational marijuana program in Montana. The panel has been tasked with blending all three proposals forwarded from the House into a single program to approve in the coming weeks.

The Montana Legislature has passed and is considering bills that advocates say will make it harder for people with disabilities to vote. House Bill 406 would curtail ballot-collection services. Disability Rights Montana staff often act as agents for people who aren’t able to drop off their ballots and staff attorney Beth Brenneman says it’s unclear if the group still could do this under the bill. She gives an example about a man they helped in the last election who is a multiple amputee who has difficulties writing and getting out of his apartment.
