UM Economist Warns Lumber Mill Closures Ripple Across Montana’s Wood Products Industry
Forest economist Sam Scott spoke at the University of Montana’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research Economic Outlook Seminar in Billings Tuesday. He says the closure of lumber mills in Missoula and Seeley Lake had a major trickle effect on other wood product entities.

The 51st annual BBER Economic Outlook Seminar series stopped in Bozeman today and will be in Butte tomorrow with final stops in Kalispell, February 10. Followed by a visit to Lewistown on March 10 and wrap up in Havre at MSU-Northern, March 11th.
Montana Veteran to Represent U.S. in 2026 Winter Paralympics
A Helena resident and veteran is trading her combat boots for curling stones. Just two years after a spinal injury left her paralyzed, retired Army Captain Katie Verderber has been named to the U.S. Paralympic Wheelchair Curling team. The Montana native will head to Italy next month for the 2026 Winter Games, with opening ceremonies scheduled for March 6.
