The annual fundraising campaign spearheaded by the Town Pump Charitable Trust Foundation will get help buying food and covering operational expenses this year for a record 116 food banks across Montana. Organizers hope the “Help Those in Need” campaign kicking off this week will raise $4 million including more than $1.1 million in matching grants from the foundation. The campaign runs through November 30th.
The state health and corrections departments intend to contract with iCare Management LLC to care for medically needy patients and inmates discharged from the Montana State Hospital the Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Center in Lewistown and transferred from state corrections facilities. The private Connecticut-based company provides community nursing home level of care.

The American Red Cross of Montana, Idaho and East Oregon is seeking volunteers willing to travel this fall to support emergency shelters for major national disaster relief efforts. More than 900 Red Cross disaster responders are on the ground across 10 states.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Department of Public Health and Human Services reports that breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among Montana women, accounting for 33% of new cancers each year. Montana women are urged to take part in the Montana Cancer Control Program which provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings (mammograms and Pap tests) and diagnostic services.
