Slight Drop In Treasure State Gasoline Prices
Average gasoline prices in Montana have fallen 0.8 cents a gallon in the last week. They are 2.5 cents a gallon lower than a month ago and 21.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. According to GasBuddy dot com Montana is currently ranked 15th in the U.S. when it comes to the average price of gas which is four spots lower than last week.
Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts US weather for winter 2025
The Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a winter that will be mostly mild with pockets of wild across the continental U.S. Expect near-normal to slightly warmer conditions in much of the country though some regions will face colder-than-average weather. Montana’s forecast is for most of the state to be mild and dry. Its forecasts are based on a blend of scientific disciplines of solar science climatology and meteorology. First published in 1792 the Old Farmer’s Almanac is the oldest continuously published periodical in the United States.
Conservation group sues to stop logging project near St. Regis
A new lawsuit has been filed by the Alliance for the Wild Rockies against the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It says the Redd Bull 2 logging project in western Montana should be halted because it will chip away at habitat for native bull trout which are on the federal Endangered Species list. It would authorize logging on 6,408 acres of land which would include the use of prescribed fire and commercial thinning.
Montana DEQ Seeks Public Comment on Draft Coal Mine Bonding Guidance
The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is requesting public input on a draft guidance document that would establish how the agency determines performance reclamation bonds for coal mines. They are intended to ensure funds are available to complete mine reclamation if a company is unable or unwilling to carry out its reclamation plan. Public comments will be accepted until October 20th.
Commissioner Fielder calls on governor to suspend Molnar from PSC
Public Service Commissioner Jennifer Fielder has called on Governor Greg Gianforte to immediately suspend PSC President Brad Molnar alleging he is attempting to block an internal investigation into his conduct. Molnar has described it as a calculated move to oust him as the PSC prepares to consider a merger between NorthWestern Energy and South Dakota-based Black Hills Corp announced last week.

After the Absarokee Elementary School Board voted to demolish the Sandstone School which is a nationally-registered historic site a group of five women in the town are working together in an effort they say focuses on saving it. In five years they’ve raised about $400,000 from community donations and grants with hopes to turn the building into an education center.
The end of an exemption on tariff duties for low-value packages coming into the United States Friday is causing multiple international postal services to pause shipping as they await more clarity on the rule. The exemption known as the “de minimis” exemption allows packages worth less than $800 to come into the U.S. duty free.
