60th Anniversary of the Hebgen lake Earthquake / MT FWP Measures to Fight CWD

    9:00 AM-10:00 AM
    August 15, 2019

It was the strongest and deadliest earthquake to ever hit Montana. 10x the strength of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that wracked havoc in Helena in 1935. This weekend marks the 60th Anniversary of the 1959 Hebgen Lake Earthquake. 7.2 on the Richter scale, 28 people tragically lost their lives. We will retell their stories on Voices today.

Have you seen wildlife in Montana that look emaciated – scrawny, scraggy, acting abnormal? Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been detected in Montana – along the Hi-line, and in southeastern Montana, and an outbreak in Libby that took wildlife managers by surprise. It’s very serious. It’s fatal to animals and there is no cure at this point. Montana wildlife managers are taking steps to limit its deadly spread – how far will they have to go?
