Black Butte Copper – Mine Permits Moving Forward
The proposed Black Butte Copper mine took a step forward this past week as two Montana environmental agencies released important documents relating to the mine’s permit application. One is the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, and the other is a Preliminary Determination (PD) from the Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation. Years in the making, both documents are vital in determining a Record of Decision for the proposed copper mine north of White Sulphur Springs.
Black Butte Copper parent company Sandfire America’s CEO Rob Scargill, and Nancy Schlepp, Vice President of Communications, joined Voices to discuss the project. Listen to the podcast to learn more about the environmental mitigation efforts, how a changing world has increased demand for copper, and the collaborative development of a modern underground mine.
